TESTAMONIAL
COZANNES GOLD - THE REASON I BECAME A BODY WORKER
Cozannes was a 7 year old OTTB when I got him. He suffered a head-over-heal accident during his last race. The accident fractured the spinous processes of T4-T8. Bone fragments moved around in the withers and caused abscesses. The fragments were noticed during a sonar and
x-ray. A flap-opening was made surgically in order to remove the bone fragments and cut away all of the abscesses.
Body Work and rehabilitation exercises was started six weeks after surgery.
Cozannes recovered completely and could start riding four months after surgery.
TESTAMONIALS
Willemien started treating Adam in 2014 when he was just a youngster. Adam is a 17hh, 1500lbs old-style warmblood, and because his body is heavy, he needed regular treatment to keep him comfortable and happy.
She treated him through many phases of his dressage career and ultimately to a mature horse that needed maintenance when his body started compensating for wear in his joints.
She treated the horses (and owner) with kindness and patience. (anxious owner, and large, bemused horse, that was not always sure what was going on)
We were sad to see her go when she left South Africa for the USA, but our loss means that somebody else has the opportunity to benefit from her skills.-

Willemien is an exceptional equine body worker. I hired her services for my many horses, and I was thoroughly impressed by her knowledge, professionalism and dedication to improving the well-being of my horses. With her gentle approach and deep understanding of equine anatomy, Willemien was able to address specific issues and provide effective solutions. My horses always responded positively to her treatments, and I noticed significant improvement in their performance and overall comfort. I highly recommend Willemien to any horse owner looking for a skilled and caring equine body worker. We truly miss her here in South Africa.

Willemien started treating Dream Catcher when he was still a youngster palomino “boerperd”.
Dream is an outstanding Western Mounted Games horse who moved from level 1 up to level 3 in two years time. Willemien treated him before and after every show. His main issues were his neck and lower back. After he was under Willemien’s hands a clear differance in my horse’s movement could be noticed.

Eclipse is our 16.2hh OTTB with speed! Willemien treated him through most of his Western games days and then later on during jumping.
Western mounted games was stopped when his jumping and dressage career took off.
He has issues in his neck to the right side and compensation to the left lower back and hind end. Needless to say - he needed Willemien on a weekly basis to calm his muscles and work out tension.
Eclipse will be ever so grateful for Willemien and her healing hands.
Thank you Willemien.

Saliendo is a TBxWBxBoerperd. He is a jumper of 1.3 m / 4 feet 3 inches. (Started at 90cm when Willemien started seeing him).
Willemien identified issues in his right hip and his lower back. Because of those he sometimes present with neck issues and sore shoulders.
Because he jumped so high he had to be seen on a regular basis.
Saliendo did great on regular body work from Willemien and could continuous to higher jumps.
Saliendo is always looking forward to every visit of Willemien back in South Africa to get a massage and kinesiotaping to help him for a while.

Willemien started treating my horses on a regular basis since 2015.
Sha has so much compassion and love for horses and that is what makes her an excellent Body Worker.
My stallion, Tequila, developed arthritis in his hind fetlocks and she changed his life with regular treatments.
We all miss Willemien at Madison’s stable yard.

BALALAIKA
A 6 year old South African Boerperd.
He suffered from an Ephmoid Hematoma.
I was surgically removed but returned the next year and he had to undergo surgery again.
With the consent of the surgeon, Willemien started with body work on Laika within six weeks after his surgeries.
Swelling of the face was treated with kinesiotaping and cold laser therapy.
Due to the area af the injury he had a tight Temperomandibular joint (TMJ) that had to be treated. Compensation was also found in the neck, poll area, shoulders and back.
This was treated with hands-on massage and fascia release, equissage treatment and cold laser therapy.
He recovered completely after his second surgery and competed in the South African Western Mounted Games five years in a row.

(1) During body work on this horse he showed with the blinking of his eyes that work was done on a
sore spot and that he was about to release; (2) A jawn is an indication of stress release; (3) Licking and chewing, and eventually the ultimate jawn as a release of tension during body work.

WHAT IS FACSIA?
The under discussed topic in the equine sport industry
Fascia is the connective tissue that runs like a very densely woven spider web through the entire body. It is the informational and structural highway of the body. It surrounds, interpenetrates and covers all muscles, nerves, arteries, veins and bones as well as all of the internal organs including the heart, lungs, brain and
spinal cord. It is very organized, relaxed, soft and very flexible in a healthy state. Fascia plays an important role in the support, separation and protection of cells and functioning of the body, as well as metabolic communication.
Therefore, the fascia becomes tight and restricted and lose its pliability and form due to direct tissue trauma or injury on the body structures,. The body becomes less flexible and range of motion decreases. A high percentage of pain and/or lack of motion and decreased body functions are directly related to fascia problems even years after trauma.
Debranne Pattillo, AEBW states: “a tear the myofascial tissue causes a 15% loss of strength to the muscle.” Changes or restriction in the structure of the fascia will compromise the nerves and blood vessels, which will result in impaired nutrition, metabolism and oxygen exchange at cellular level and decreased body function. Symptoms like pain, lameness, swelling or restriction of motion occur.
Myofascia release (MFR) therapy treats the entire fascia mind/body complex and eliminating the pressure of the restricted fascia system that causes the above symptoms. MFR will safely and gently release the entire fascial complex for lasting and comprehensive results and healing. By using the MFR technique one can ensure reduction in muscle spasms, break down of scar tissue, improvement of joint mobility, relaxing contraction of muscles and fascia tension release. Thus, relieving pain, reducing edema and decreasing recurring injuries. MFR improves the health of the fascia and muscles, increases lymphatic drainage, stimulates the stretch reflex of muscle and overlying fascia and improves blood circulation.
The deep tissue of the body is relaxed and provides the equine athlete with lasting and effective relief of pain and discomfort. No sore muscles, no sore horse after treatment!!
